Miami International to Roll Out Biometric Boarding to All Gates

Miami International Airport plans to implement biometric boarding at all of its 130-plus departure gates by sometime in 2023, making it the largest deployment of biometric technology at any U.S. airport. MIA has selected SITA’s Smart Path solution, which uses

NEC Corp.’s biometric identify platform. At the boarding gate, passengers will pause in front of a camera for a live photo that is used to confirm their identity and authorization to travel, all within seconds. MIS says it is now the busiest U.S. airport for international travel. The rollout of Biometric Exit at MIA follows its airport-wide expansion in 2020 of Simplified Arrival, in which Customs and Border Protection officers use facial recognition to aid the processing of international arrivals and automate the manual identity document checks to enter the U.S.

Biodetection Company BioFlyte Raises $6M in Funding Round

BioFlyte says it has raised $6.1 million from investors in a Series A funding round, allowing it to accelerate field validation and production of the BioTOF z200 bio-aerosol detection system as the company moves toward commercialization of the system. The funding round was led by Cottonwood Technology Fund with additional funding from existing investor Anzu Partners. The BioTOF z200 is a miniaturized, low-cost and low-power bio-aerosol detection system for continuous and autonomous operation in critical infrastructure environments such as third-party command and control systems. The systems include a wall-mount sensor for autonomous detection and identification of airborne microbes and toxins in real-time. The system offers high sensitivity at 100 threat particles per liter of ambient air.
