Raytheon [RTN] recently said it has acquired Technology Associates, Inc. (TA), a small privately-owned firm specializing in life-cycle computer engineering for programs in the U.S. Intelligence Community, boosting its capabilities in cyber security.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. TA, which is based in Northern Virginia, had $21.3 million in sales in 2009, up 13 percent from $18.9 million reported in 2008, according to information on its web site. In 2007, TA had $15.6 million in sales.

Raytheon said that the deal would be immaterial to its sales and earnings this year.

TA’s core capabilities are in data extraction and analysis, digital media intercept and exploitation, embedded system programming, and information assurance services.

“Now more than ever, our customers are acutely aware of the depth and breadth of the cyber threat,” Lynn Dugle, president of Raytheon’s Intelligence and Information Systems (IIS) sector, said in a statement. “By acquiring Technology Associates and integrating its talent and expertise into our business, we’ll further strengthen our ability to meet the evolving needs of our customers.”

TA will become part of IIS. Preston Harrelle, TA’s president, will stay with Raytheon to lead business operations and also take on a broader role in cyber strategy across IIS’ product line.

TA has 110 employees.
