The General Services Administration (GSA) has awarded Parsons Corp. a potential $23.1 million contract for the Campus Coordinator job related to the construction of the new Department of Homeland Security (DHS) headquarters at the St. Elizabeth’s hospital complex in Washington, D.C. The initial award for the first year of work is $3.5 million, which includes $2.7 million in Recovery Act monies. The contract includes six one-year options. Battelle was also competing for the award. Under the award, the engineering and construction firm will be responsible for “global issues” pertaining to all three phases of the HQ projects. Parsons will assist GSA in meeting project requirements with regard to scope, schedule, budget, quality and other things, the agency says. In phase one a new Coast Guard HQ is under construction and certain historic buildings are being refurbished. In the second phase, the Center Building for DHS, Central Utility Plant and National Operations Center will be built as will the HQ for the Federal Emergency Management Agency along with additional refurbishments of historic buildings. The final phase will include new construction and the refurbishment of historic buildings for Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Transportation Security Administration and DHS.
