The Navy and Northrop Grumman [NOC] reached an agreement on providing new computers as part of an upgrade to the avionics aboard the Marine Corps’ Super Huey and Cobra helicopters, the company said yesterday.
The $8.9-million contract issued by Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) calls for Northrop Grumman to supply Gen II mission computers for the Marine Corps’ light attack helicopters under the H-1 upgrade program, according to a statement. They will be installed on Bell Helicopter Textron [TXT]-built UH-1Y Super Huey and AH-1Z Super Cobras, the company said.
The computers are the cornerstone of the integrated avionics system that provide centralized control of the system, interface with the tactical moving map and display situational awareness and health monitoring data, according to a statement.
