Navy Shipbuilding Plan Won’t Meet Marine Corps Needs To Police Pacific

The Navy’s long-term shipbuilding plan fails to provide the number of amphibious combat ships the Marine Corps will need to meet the various missions it will be called to perform as the military refocuses its strategic vision on the Asia-Pacific, a panel of experts agreed Oct. 20.Currently, the Navy has 30 amphibious ships of all configurations while Marines say at least 38 are needed to perform a high-end invasion from the sea in the region.
