DHS S&T Improving Breathing Apparatus for First Responders

The Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Science & Technology (S&T) Directorate plans to enter contract negotiations with the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) for aid in the development of a revolutionary new compressed air system to improve self-contained breathing apparatus for first responders. The IAFF will produce a first of its kind plastics based air vessel that will replace heavier and more cumbersome metal based vessels that first responders currently use. Sol. No. RSTR-07-00031.
