The cybersecurity company CrowdStrike Inc. [CRWD] last week said it has received a contract from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to provide threat detection tools and services to multiple federal agencies.
The value of the award and the specific agencies was not disclosed.
The award, which was made on Sept. 30, includes endpoint detection and response (EDR) tools that provide visibility, detection, prevention and response security capabilities in laptop and desktop computers and servers, cloud workloads, and behavior detection, which combined “help you get a better understanding about prescriptively how and when you need to act once you’re alerted to security events,” James Yeager, vice president of public sector and healthcare, told HSR sister publication Defense Daily last week.
Other tools and services included in the contract are managed threat hunting, threat intelligence products, vulnerability management, visibility and security into removable media, and the management and security of firewall policies, rules and configuration settings.
CrowdStrike’s solution under contract is “more comprehensive than just EDR,” Yeager said, adding “I call it platform security.”
Funding for the award was made through the $650 million Congress provided CISA earlier this year as part of the nearly $2 trillion American Rescue Plan stimulus legislation. CISA awarded the contract under its Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) DEFEND program, which acquires various cybersecurity tools, services and dashboards for federal civilian agencies, giving them insight into their networks, boosting security and improving response capabilities.
Additional contracts may be forthcoming to provide the same capabilities to other departments and agencies, Yeager said.
In a statement, CISA said “The contract represents a significant tool procurement which will enable the CDM program’s DEFEND integration teams to deploy and assist agencies with operationalizing EDR platforms, in response to advanced threats. This activity is being funded by the American Rescue Plan Act and allows CISA to support EDR initiatives throughout the federal enterprise for the foreseeable future.”
