Coast Guard Awards Bollinger $79 Million for Two FRCs

The Coast Guard has exercised a contract option with Bollinger Shipyards for the construction of two Fast Response Cutters (FRCs) for $79.2 million, bringing to 32 the number of Sentinel-class vessels the service has ordered from the shipbuilder. The delivery order is the final contract option in Phase I of the FRC program, which last Friday reentered a new competitive phase with the release of a Request for Proposal to build the remaining 26 vessels to fulfill the Coast Guard’s requirement for 58 of the patrol boats. The Coast Guard says the final option to Bollinger brings the total value of the company’s contract for 32 FRCs to $1.48 billion, which is $20 million less than the original ceiling. However, the original contract called for acquiring up to 36 FRCs in Phase I. The Coast Guard has already purchased the data rights from Bollinger for use by potential competitors in Phase II of the program.
