CBP Proposes Big Increase in Funding for Cargo Inspection Equipment

After several years of stagnant budgets for its cargo inspection equipment used mainly at land and seaports of entry, Customs and Border Protection is requesting $209.3 million in FY ’16 for non-intrusive inspection (NII) systems, a nearly 70 percent increase over the amount requested in FY ’15.In budget documents released to Congress this month, CBP says $88.5 million of the request will be for recapitalizing aging equipment, which include large and small-scale NII systems, while the largest chunk of the…
