L-3 Communications [LLL] Chairman, President and CEO Michael Strianese tells investors that during the company’s third quarter its Security and Detection Systems business received a contract in support of Korea’s Incheon International Airport for 14 explosives detection systems valued at more than $25 million over the next year. The company will supply its eXaminer XLB EDS systems and related OptiNet networking infrastructure.

[OSIS] says it has successfully resolved a matter with the Department of Homeland Security related to a then-unapproved Chinese part it its Advanced Technology X-Ray systems that led the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to cancel a contract with the company for the aviation checkpoint security scanners. Use of the unapproved part in its bid for the AT X-Ray contract, which was subsequently awarded to Smiths Detection, led to a review by the Department of Homeland Security that could have resulted in the company being temporarily disbarred from receiving federal contracts.

Implant Sciences [IMSC] says it has shipped more than $600,000 in explosives trace detectors (ETDs) to customers in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa to meet previously unannounced orders. Customers for both its handheld Quantum Sniffer H150 and its benchtop QS-B220 ETDs include airports, cargo companies, hotels, and petroleum industry facilities, the company says. It adds that about half the QS-B220 units shipped went to aviation security users.
