The private equity firm AE Industrial Partners (AEI) on Monday said it has completed its purchase of a majority stake in York Space Systems, a manufacturer of small satellites, related components and turnkey mission solutions.

Terms of the deal, which was first announced in early October, were not disclosed.

AEI has made a number of bets in the new space economy. Through a series of investments, the firm created the platform company Redwire [RDW], which designs space architectures, provides products for on-orbit assembly and manufacturing, and develops and produces sensors and components. AEI is also an investor in Sierra Space.

York, which is based in Denver, will continue to be led by its founder, Dirk Wallinger as CEO and a board director. Charles “Chuck” Beames, the company’s chairman, will continue as a board member.

York is developing and manufacturing small low Earth orbiting satellites for the Space Development Agency’s Space Transport Layer.

“York has transformed the small satellite market with its complete mission solutions and mass manufacturing capabilities,” Kirk Konert, a partner at AEI, said in a statement. “The company has become a critical partner to the Space Development Agency, Space Force, and other national security customers given its ability to deliver new satellite technology solutions faster and more cost efficiently than any other player in the market.”
