Lockheed Martin [LMT] on August 4 said it will rename its Mission Systems and Training segment to Rotary and Mission Systems in September to reflect the company’s acquisition of helicopter manufacturer Sikorsky Aircraft and the realignments related to the pending merger of its information services business with another federal contractor.
“The new name captures the breadth of our expanded portfolio and reflects the skills and expertise of the 18,000 new employees who have joined our business,” Dale Bennett, executive vice president of Rotary and Mission Systems, said in a statement. The name change takes effect on Sept. 5.
Lockheed Martin in November 2016 acquired Sikorsky from United Technologies Corp. [UTX] for $9 billion. In August the company is expected to complete the divestiture of most of its Information Systems and Global Solutions (IS&GS) segment to Leidos [LDOS].
In addition to Sikorsky and its legacy business units, Rotary and Mission Systems has incorporated some businesses of IS&GS and the Missiles and Fire Control segment. Rotary and Mission Systems’ five business lines are C4ISR & Undersea Systems, Integrated Warfare Systems and Sensors; Ship and Aviation Systems, Sikorsky, and Training and Logistics Solutions.
Rotary and Mission Systems is expected to generate between $13.2 billion and $13.5 billion in sales this year. The business area has more than 1,000 programs covering helicopters, integrated air and missile defense, littoral warfare, undersea warfare, radar, electronic warfare, cyber solutions, C4ISR, and training and logistics systems.
