The U.S. Marine Corps successfully completed an operational test of the General Dynamics [GD]-built Common Aviation Command and Control System (CAC2S) during a Marine Corps Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course in Yuma, Ariz., the company said Wednesday.

The CAC2S is a command and control system that visually integrates information from several air and ground-based radar systems and sensors to allow for greater joint interoperability. It is being used by the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF).

This system also consolidates the existing functionality of the Marine Air Command and Control Systems (MACCS) into one system, and can be scaled from small expeditionary operations up to large-scale operations conducted by air, sea, or on land. CAC2S was developed using an open architecture approach, allowing the easy implementation of technology insertion and capability enhancement, GD said.

“The Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course represents a live-fly operational environment that is as close to actual combat as it gets. Commanders now have the ability to see an integrated air-ground picture in their task-organized command and control centers, adapting to operational situations as they develop,” Bill Weiss, vice president and general manager of ground systems at  GD’s mission systems divisions, said in a statement.
