Smiths Detection’s IONSCAN 600 ETD Certified in France for Aviation Security

Smiths Detection says France’s Service Technique de L’aviation Civile (STAC) has serviced the company’s non-radioactive, portable IONSCAN 600 explosives trace detector (ETD) for use in air cargo and passenger screening. “The STAC seal of approval provides our French and EU customers further reassurance that our products are built with quality and precision, and comply with EU regulations,” says Shan Hood, vide president, Products and Technology at Smiths Detection. The IONSCAN 600 has also passed European Civil Aviation Conference Common Evaluation Process ETD Standard for passenger and cargo checkpoint screening.

Logos Technologies Introduces Lightweight Wide Area Motion Imagery Sensor

Logos Technologies has introduced a new compact, ultra-lightweight, wide area motion imagery (WAMI) sensor system that can be housed in an aerodynamic pod that weighs less than 35-pounds, allowing it to be mounted on helicopters, light planes and tactical unmanned aircraft systems. Logos says the Redkite can image a 4-kilometer-wide are at once and perform all of the image processing on board, within the pod. “Redkite will be an invaluable tool for law enforcement, firefighters, search and rescue teams and other users,” says John Marion, president of Logos. “No longer will they have to depend solely on traditional narrow-field video cameras.” The new sensor allows users to open and watch more than 10 videos streaming windows at once within the monitored area and they can designate other areas as “watchboxes,” with the sensor providing an alert should it detect activity there, the company says.
