Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam says it has introduced automated detection technology on all of its L-3 Communications [LLL] ProVision whole body imaging systems that means “no image analyst is required to analyze the images anymore.” Schiphol refers to its whole body imagers as Security Scan. The ProVision systems at Schiphol require a person to step into the machine, raise their hands above their head, and then stand still for three seconds for the scan to complete. A screen next to the system presents a basic stylized human figure and highlights any objects on a person’s body. This permits more targeted hand searches if necessary, the airport says. A passenger going through the Security Scan must still divest their coat and belt and any items in their pockets although he or she may leave their shoes on. The systems are in use at airport and customs security controls.
