AMETEK‘s [AME] ORTEC Products Group says its Detective Advanced Spectroscopic radiation monitoring portal operating at a border checkpoint in New Mexico has completed its first year of operation without a single day of downtime. “The ORTEC high-purity germanium-based detectors along with the software algorithms incorporated within our radiation portal monitor system significantly improve the ability of screeners to determine quickly if a radioactive source poses a threat without unnecessarily interrupting the normal flow of commerce,” says Matthew Cole, vice president and general manager of AMETEK Advanced Measurement Technology. New Mexico ordered the monitor in the spring of 2009 and the system was commissioned in Nov. 2009 (TR2, April 1, 2009).
