Adm. William Fallon is resigning his post as commander of U.S. Central Command and will retire March 31, Defense Secretary Robert Gates told reporters at the Pentagon yesterday. Army Lt. Gen. Martin Dempsey, Fallon's deputy, will serve as CENTCOM commander until a permanent replacement is confirmed. Fallon was the subject of an Esquire article that suggested he was at odds with the Bush administration policy on matters including Iran. Gates said he was reluctant and regretful to accept Fallon's resignation.…
