Leonardo has secured the first contract for its emergency service aircraft in the US with a deal to deliver three AgustaWestland AW169 helicopters to the Travis County, Texas government.
Travis County will serve as the launch customer in the U.S for Leonardo’s AW169 after purchasing the helicopters under its emergency response aircraft modernization program, STAR Flight.
Leonardo announced the deal Oct. 16 at the Air Medical Transport Conference in Fort Worth, TX.
The AW169 will support Travis County’s emergency response, search & rescue and fire suppression operations. The helicopters will be configured with EMS equipment firefighting kits and a 300-gallon Simplex water tank.
Delivery of the three helicopters is expected in Oct. 2018. Leonardo has previously secured 160 deals for its AW169 in other nations.
