The Energy Department’s Idaho National Laboratory is offering the opportunity to license, further develop, use and commercialize its Idaho Explosives Detection System (IEDS), a non-intrusive, non-contact inspection system that can, in five minutes, detect explosives hidden in a small cargo truck or similar vehicle. The IEDS uses neutron technology in a portal-type configuration. Vehicles being inspected would be required to stop within the system’s inspection zone and occupants would have to exit. The IEDS also monitors the health of its individual components. The lab says that the IEDS can be used at access control points such as building parking garages, military bases, border control stations or embassy grounds. Sol. No. 250-12. Respond by March 12.
