Goodrich [GR] has received a production contract from General Dynamics [GD] to provide scanner modules and associated data items for the Army’s Joint Services Lightweight Standoff Chemical Agent Detector (JSLSCAD) system. The chemical agent detector uses a passive infrared detection system that automatically searches the 7 to 14-micron region of the surrounding atmosphere for chemical agent vapor clouds. Once detection is made, JSLSCAD identifies the agent cloud and alerts operators with audible and/or visual alarms, allowing personnel to either avoid contaminate areas or don protective gear. Goodrich’s ISR Systems unit expects to begin deliveries of the modules in the second quarter of 2009.
