The State Department approved a possible $90 million Foreign Military Sales (FMS) request to France for Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) Unitary Rocket Pods and related support.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of the potential sale on April 12.

The sale would include 21 GMLRS Unitary Rocket Pods, a GMLRS Quality Assurance Team (QAT), GMLRS publications, live fire data, software updates, and technical assistance. The major defense equipment (MDE) portion of the sale is estimated at $60 million.

This GMLRS Unitary equipment would come from U.S. Army stock without the involvement of contractors. The Army originally procured the GMLRS Unitary system from Lockheed Martin [LMT].

France would use the missiles to expand its existing army architecture and improve its self-defense capabilities, DSCA said.

DSCA added that France was a co-developer of the GMLRS and has an operational requirement for additional missiles.

Implementation of the FMS would require U.S. government or contractor representatives to travel to France for equipment de-processing, fielding, system checkout, and new equipment training.
