L-3 Communications [LLL] says that Cook County, Ill., Department of Corrections has purchased 10 of the company’s ProVision Whole Body Imaging Systems following a trial period. During the trail ProVision was used at the Cook County Jail’s Level 1 intake facility to screen prisoners for weapons, drugs and other contraband. The Department of Corrections houses nearly 10,000 inmates and transports up to 1,500 people from local outlying district courts every day. “Our pilot project resulted in numerous finds of contraband on detainees entering our facility, as well as contraband such as drugs being dumped in the waiting line to enter the machine,” says Daniel Brown, assistant executive director at the Department of Corrections. The department acquired one machine for each of its 10 divisions. TSA has acquired about 30 of the ProVision systems for use at the nation’s airports.
