TSA Awards Morpho Detection Potential $28M for EDS Support

Morpho Detection has received a potential $28 million contract from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to provide technical and engineering services for the company’s deployed CTX 9000, 9400 and 9800 medium speed explosive detection systems (EDS) used to screen checked bags at the nation’s airports. The support funding will be let out through task orders during FY ’15. Army Awards Alakai Defense Systems Contract for CPEDS II

Alakai Defense Systems has received a contract from the Army to provide upgrades for the Checkpoint Explosives Detection System (CPEDS) II. The contract has an $8.8 million base value and if all options are exercised a $15 million ceiling. Under the contract, Florida-based Alakai will provide engineering and technical services, research and development, rapid prototyping and testing, low rate production of systems, components and related hardware and software. The effort will address the urgent need for increased range, shoot-on-the-move capabilities as well as other improvements to increase operational usage. The contract will also cover requirements to upgrade to government furnished equipment units, four replicate units, and for testing and support. In the base year two CPEDS II units will be upgraded to the CPEDS III configuration. The CPEDS II system, manufactured by Alakai, is also called the Standoff Covert Eyesafe Explosive Detection System.

Trinity Nabs Montana Airport Screening Contracts Again

Incumbent contractor Trinity Technology Group has won a $9.2 million contract from the Transportation Security Administration to continue providing privatized screening services to five airports in Eastern Montana. The airports—Dawson Community, Havre City County, L.M. Clayton, Sidney-Richland Regional, and Wokal Field/Glasgow International—have been in the TSA Screening Partnership Program since 2009. Under the SPP program, airports can opt out of using federal screeners in favor of a private screening workforce.  The contract is a small business set aside.

Magal to Provide Security System for Spanish Port

Israel’s’ Magal Security Systems [MAGS] has received a $2.1 million contract to deliver an integrated security solution for the Port of Tarragona in Spain. The solution includes Magal’s DTR taut wire detection system, the company DTAC decorative smart fence, microwave sensors and infrared beams. The port’s legacy CCTV coverage will be extended by 150 new day/nigh and thermal cameras, the seaside will be monitored by six new dual technology (thermal and CCD) high resolution cameras, with intelligent video analytics. The new and existing systems will be integrated in to a new control center that will be managed by Magal’s Fortis security management software, enabling mobile land and marine police to interact with the system. Previously, each system required its own management console, says Joan Bergada, head of the Spanish Harbor Police.

Salient Federal Solutions Wins $2M for Marine Corps Mass Notification Systems

The Navy has awarded Salient Federal Solutions three task orders worth a combined $2.2 million to provide emergency mass notification systems for the Marine Corps at 20 sites. The orders are being made under the Marine Corps Mass Notification Systems Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity Contract. Salient will design, procure, deliver, install and upgrade indoor and outdoor emergency notification systems under the task orders. The task orders are part of continuing work Salient provide the Marine Corps for mass notification support.
