The Coast Guard on Friday commissioned its second National Security Cutter (NSC), Waesche (WMSL-751), at its homeport in Alameda, Calif., marking entry of the 418-foot vessel into the service's fleet. Waesche joins the first Coast Guard NSC, Bertholf (WMSL-750), as the first two of eight planned NSCs in the service's inventory. Shipbuilder Northrop Grumman [NOC] is about 40 percent complete with the third NSC, which is the Stratton (WMSL-752). The fourth vessel is expected to be on contract this summer.
