*Smiths Detection will supply its IONSCAN 500DT explosives trace detection system to Los Angeles-based ABLE Freight Services to help the freight forwarder meet the Aug. 2010 100 percent air cargo screening mandate. ABLE Freight specializes in shipping temperature-sensitive times such as perishable foods, pharmaceuticals and semiconductors. The value of the order and number of systems being purchased wasn’t disclosed. ABLE Freight is a Transportation Security Administration Certified Cargo Screening Facility.

*NASA plans to award a task order to ASRC Aerospace Corp. under an existing contract to develop documentation on research and development requirements that will guide how future unmanned aircraft systems can safely operate in the national airspace. Specifically, the work to be done under the task order will focus on how UAS can safely communicate with ground controllers using existing communications system as the number of UAS continue to increase in the future. Work will also focus on weather hazards as they impact UAS during flight.

*Implant Sciences [IMX] has received an increase in its line of credit from $3 million to $5 million from its lender DMRJ Group, LLC, after defaulting its loan payments in December. DMRJ has also extended the maturing of all the company’s indebtedness from Dec. 10, 2009 to June 10, 2010, and waived all existing defaults through the new maturity date. Implant currently owes DMRJ almost $7.6 million, including principal and accrued interest. Implant makes the Quantum Sniffer QS-H150 handheld explosives trace detector.
