Customs and Border Protection this month launched its Simplified Arrival facial comparison technology at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina, further expanding the program that is used to identify arrivals to the U.S. on international flights. The program automates the entry process through the use of facial biometrics technology. The program is mandatory for foreign nationals arriving to the airport. U.S. citizens may opt out of using the technology, in which case they must present a valid travel document to the CBP officer for a manual check.

Science and Technology Directorate has selected 18 teams from different Minority Institutions in the U.S. to participate in the 2021 Summer Research Team program. The host Centers of Excellence for the program include the Arctic Domain Awareness Center, the Center for Accelerated Operational Efficiency, the Center for Cross-Border Threat Screening & Supply Chain Defense, the Criminal Investigations and Network Analysis, the Critical Infrastructure Resilience Institute, the Coastal Resilience Center, and the Maritime Security Center.

The Transportation Security Administration awarded a contract bridge to Alaska-based Moss Cape for business architecture services of the Technology Infrastructure Modernization system due to a bid protest more than a year ago by IBM [IBM]. TSA had selected AFS, LLC for the work. TSA is taking corrective action and re-evaluating proposals. Moss Cape is the incumbent on the contract.
