Boeing [BA] yesterday said it has completed its acquisition of unmanned air system (UAS) developer and manufacturer Insitu, Inc., giving it a stronger position in the low-cost UAS market.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Insitu will operate as an independent subsidiary under Boeing Integrated Defense Systems’ Military Aircraft unit. The deal was first announced in July and is part of a “larger plan to increase Boeing’s presence in the unmanned systems market,” the company said.
Insitu develops and builds the ScanEagle UAS, which provides intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities to the Navy and Marine Corps. Boeing has teamed with the company for the past six years on ScanEagle.
