ATK [ATK] has teamed up with General Dynamics [GD] to produce the Precision Extended Range Mortar (PERM) for the Marine Corps, ATK said yesterday.
ATK will be the prime contractor for the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase and will combine with General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems propulsion and warhead subsystems to provide the 120mm long-range mortar fired from the Expeditionary Fire Support System (EFSS) towed-mortar platform.
The Expeditionary Fire Support System is a light, mobile, and vertically transportable indirect fire support system designed for missions requiring tactical versatility, speed, and close-in fire support, ATK said.
The EFSS is designed to be internally transportable in the MV-22B Osprey and the CH-53 helicopter and has been fielded with the Marine Corps since 2009, ATK said.
