Alaska Members Of Congress Press Pentagon Not To Cut GMD

Alaska members of Congress are pushing Secretary of Defense Robert Gates not to cut funding for the Ground-based Midcourse Defense system, part of the multi-layered U.S. shield against enemy missiles. The members are Sens. Lisa Murkowski r and Mark Begich (D), who are concerned about the GMD installation at Fort Greeley in Alaska. There also is a GMD installation in California. And the United States proposes installing a variant of the GMD system in the Czech Republic (radar) and Poland…
