Akamai Technologies [AKAM] has acquired Cyberfend, a firm that focuses on bot and automated detection solutions for web and mobile environments, the company said Monday.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed although Akamai said it paid in cash. The acquisition is intended to strengthen Akamai’s current bot management and mitigation services.
Akamai plans to leverage this acquisition to extend the capabilities of its Bot Management solution by offering online businesses the technology needed to distinguish between real customers and cyber attacks while also limiting the attackers’ ability to avoid detection.
“The addition of Cyberfend’s technology is intended to give our customers a better way to spot and stop credential abuse on their sites – benefiting both the online business and its users,” Stuart Scholly, senior vice president and general manager, of web security at Akamai, said in a statement.
Akamai highlighted Cyberfend’s machine learning-based real-time detection capabilities can be instrumental to the Bot Manager’s differentiation as the solution to help meet complex requirements.
“Adding the scale and reach of Akamai’s platform to Cyberfend’s technology, and complementing Akamai’s Bot Manager solution with Cyberfend’s capabilities, creates an exciting value proposition for customers worldwide,” Cyberfend ompany co-founder Sridhar Machiroutu, said in a statement.
The acquisition is not material to Akamai’s financials, the company said.
