Air Force Awards Lockheed Martin $1.9 Billion Contract Modification For SBIRS 5/6

The Air Force June 24 awarded Lockheed Martin [LMT] a $1.9 billion contract modification for Space-Based Infrared Systems (SBIRS) geosynchronous earth orbit (GEO) satellites 5 and 6, according to a Defense Department statement. The contract modification includes performance incentives and options for acoustic testing and launch operations. It completes production of the SBIRS GEO 5/6 satellites, which was started with the procurement of long-lead parts. It also completes the associated ground operations and processing updates.
