Britain’s Chemring on Friday said that government regulators in the United Kingdom have granted a deadline extension for talks between the company and the private equity firm The Carlyle Group that could lead to an agreement by the investment firm to acquire the developer and manufacturer of energetic products and countermeasures.

Chemring disclosed last month that Carlyle has expressed an interest in acquiring the company (Defense Daily, Aug. 23). Under British law, Carlyle was required by last Friday to either announce a firm intention to make an offer for Chemring or not.

Instead, Chemring sought and received an extension from the British government for the deadline on the talks. The new deadline is Oct. 12.
