TSA Expands Use of AS&E’s Backscatter System to LAX

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) this week expanded the pilot test of American Science & Technology's [ASEI] backscatter-based SmartCheck personnel screening system to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), AS&E says. The screening system has been in use at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport since Feb. 2007 and remains ongoing to provide passengers selected for secondary screening with an option to pat-down searches. AS&E says that about 90 percent of selected passengers have opted for SmartCheck.
