Sourcefire [FIRE] has acquired Immunet, a provider of cloud computing-based anti-malware products, in a deal that extends the company’s real-time detection and prevention cyber security solutions to the cloud. Sourcefire paid $17 million in cash for Immunet and could pay up to $4 million more in earn out provisions over the next 18 months. “This acquisition immediately enables Sourcefire to provide endpoint protection from client-side attacks and Advanced Persistent Threat,” Sourcefire says. “The cloud-based platform also enables innovative approaches to reputation services, data loss prevention and forensics. “Combined with Sourcefire’s network intrusion prevention system, customers get the most comprehensive protection against today’s threats from cloud to core.” Immunet operates on a subscription-based business model and has over 750,000 users in 192 countries. Sourcefire expects the deal to be dilutive to earnings per share by 10 cents this year and at least neutral to earnings in 2011.
