Smiths Detection has received a $26.7 million contract from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to provide 164 6040 aTiX Advanced Technology (AT) X-Ray systems for aviation checkpoint security. The award is the third for Smiths under its AT X-Ray contract. The initial award in Oct. 2007 was for $21 million and the second award in June was for $25 million. TSA has also awarded contracts to OSI Systems [OSIS] Rapiscan division to supply its 620DV AT X-Ray system to screen carry on bags at the nation’s airports. Last month Rapiscan received a $15 million order from TSA for 200 620DVs, bringing its award total under the program to about $32 million (TR2, Sept. 17).
