President’s Budget Accelerates FCS Spin Outs, Ends Manned Ground Vehicles

By Ann Roosevelt The President's fiscal year 2010 budget request unveiled yesterday followed Defense Secretary Robert Gates' recommendations significantly restructuring the Army's major modernization program, Future Combat System (FCS). The service requests a total of about $3.1 billion for FCS, about the same as last year. However, the service chopped about $633 million from FCS, halting development and procurement of the manned ground vehicle program (MGV).
