Northrop Grumman [NOC] on Tuesday said it has won a $45.1 million contract to continue to provide the United Kingdom Home Office with maintenance and enhancements of a national database for biometrics and forensics used by police forces in Britain.
The Forensic and Biometric Interim Capability, also called FABrIC, is a recompete of the IDENT1 contract that Northrop Grumman originally won in 2004. The new two-year contract, which also includes a two-year option, provides an interim capability until the U.K. awards the Home Office Biometrics contract.
Under the FABrIC contract, Northrop Grumman said it will enhance and maintain the IDENT1 core software, which provides identity management and crime scene forensic systems. Fingerprints are the primary means of verifying identities in the United Kingdom for law enforcement, the company said.
“The award demonstrates our continued collaborative partnership and strong program performance of more than 20 years with the U.K. Home Office,” Ed Sturms, vice president and general manager, Civil Division, Northrop Grumman Information Systems, said in a statement.
Northrop Grumman’s teammates on the award include Morpho, which is part of France’s Safran Group, Crossmatch Technologies, and Phoenix IT Services. Work will be done in Britain and the United States.
Northrop Grumman is the prime contractor for the U.S. Defense Department’s Automated Biometric Identification System and supports the Army’s Biometric Identification System for Access.
