Navy’s UAV For Carriers Lacks Oversight, GAO Says

The Navy’s strategy for developing and fielding an unmanned aircraft to operate off aircraft carriers lacks sufficient oversight and also contains financial and scheduling risks, Congress’s investigative agency said. The Government Accountability Office report (GAO-13-833) released Thursday said the Navy plans to invest $3.7 billion in the Unmanned Carrier-Launched Airborne Surveillance and Strike (UCLASS) program to develop and produce an initial six to 24 aircraft.
