The Navy has awarded Raytheon [RTN] a $32 million contract for the Global Positioning System-based Positioning, Navigation and Timing Service (GPNTS) program for ships and submarines, the company said yesterday.
GPNTS is designed to replace the current Navigation Sensor System Interface and support real-time positioning, navigation and timing data services for weapons, combat systems, and other command, control, communications and intelligence systems.
Raytheon has been tasked with the design, development, testing and delivery of GPNTS and has partnered with Argon ST, a provider of systems and sensors for command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
Work on the contract will be done at Raytheon IDS’ Expeditionary Warfare Center in San Diego, and Argon St’s facility in Fairfax, Va.
