Metal 3D Printer Provider Velo3D Demonstrates Production Of One-Piece Hypersonic Engine

Velo3D [VLD], a small manufacturer of machines that print metal parts and structures used in a variety of applications, has used its technology to produce a one-piece, low-cost scramjet engine that could power hypersonic weapons. Manufacture of the Additively Manufactured Uniform Scramjet Enemy Response Vehicle (AMUSER) on Velo3D’s smaller printer, the Sapphire 1MZ, takes 10 days and costs $31,824 per unit, the company says in a case study released this month.
