The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) Nov. 8 notified Congress of a potential $52 million Foreign Military Sale to Malaysia for AIM-9X-2 Sidewinder Block II All-Up-Round Missiles and associated equipment and logistical support.

The prime contractor would be Raytheon [RTN] Missile Systems Company in Tucson, Ariz.

Malaysia has requested a possible sale of 20 AIM-9X-2 Sidewinder Block II All-Up-Round Missiles, eight CATM-9X-2 captive air training missiles, four CATM-9X-2 Block II missile guidance units, two AIM-9X-2 Block II tactical guidance units, and two dummy air training missiles.

The sale also would include containers, missile support and test equipment, provisioning, spare and repair parts, personnel training and training equipment, publications and technical data, U.S. government and contractor technical assistance and other related logistics support, DSCA said in a statement.

The Royal Malaysian air force is modernizing its fighter aircraft to better support its own air defense needs. The proposed sale of AIM-9X-2 missiles would enhance Malaysia’s interoperability with the United States and among other South East Asian nations, making it a more valuable partner in an increasingly important area of the world, DSCA’s statement said.
