L-3 Communications [LLL] will continue maintenance and logistics work under a contract with an estimated value of $1.98 billion, with a one-year base period and four one-year options for rotary-wing aircraft support at Fort Rucker, Ala.
Under the contract issued by Army Contracting Command–Redstone on behalf of Army Aviation and Missile Life Cycle Management Command (AMCOM), L-3 said it will provide maintenance, logistics and other related sustainment support for over 600 helicopters used by the Army Aviation Center of Excellence and the Air Force Air Education Training Command.
John McNellis, president of L-3 Integrated Systems Group, said in a statement: “We have worked closely with our government partners, as well as with our dedicated Army Fleet Support workforce, to continually deliver excellent, best-value performance in support of our military aviators and their training mission. This award is a very important one for our business, especially in this current environment, and we remain focused on our commitment to operational readiness and the high-quality services that we have provided the Army and Air Force at Fort Rucker since 2003.”
Back in 2003, four aviation service companies–L-3 Communications Integrated Systems, Vertex Aerospace, Paragon Systems and U.S. Helicopter–were awarded a potential 10-year, $2.7 billion contract to maintain and support Army rotary-wing aircraft at Fort Rucker, according to the Birmingham Business Journal at the time. This four-company effort was to replace DynCorp, which had done the work for 15 years previously, the Dothan Eagle said.
