L-3 Communications [LLL] said this week that it has acquired 3Di Technologies, LLC, a provider of end-to-end satellite communications for forward deployed U.S. Special Operations and in-theater personnel.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Maryland-based 3Di has 53 employees and is expected to have about $40 million in sales this year.

“3Di will enhance L-3’s overall position as a communication solutions provider,” John Mega, president of L-3’s Microwave Group, said in a statement. “3Di is a leading innovator in secure satellite communications and we look forward to expanding L-3’s presence in this emerging, high-growth market.”

3Di combines equipment, professional services, satellite services, voice over Internet Protocol services, and field support into customized turnkey solutions. The company will be included in the Microwave Group within L-3’s Electronic Systems segment.
