Germany’s Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) on Feb. 25 said it has acquired Battle Tank Dismantling GmbH Koch, which demilitarizes, dismantles and scraps weapons.

Battle Tank Dismantling (BTD), which is also based in Germany, was acquired from the Scholz Group, a global recycler of steel and scrap. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

BTD runs Europe’s only NATO-certified tank dismantling plant. The company, which was formed in 1991, has destroyed and disposed of 16,000 military vehicles, including more than 1,800 main battle tanks and roughly 6,000 wheeled and tracked armored vehicles.

KMW designs, manufactures and supports main battle tanks, highly protected wheeled vehicles, anti-aircraft and artillery systems, infantry fighting vehicles, and bridge laying systems.
