Huntington Ingalls Industries [HII] has been awarded a $1.46 billion U.S. Navy contract for the detail design and construction of the amphibious transport dock ship USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD-28), the Pentagon announced Dec. 19.
The LPD-28 will be the 12th ship in its class. Work on the ship is expected to be completed by October 2021. Most of the work will be done in Pascagoula, Miss.
