General Dynamics [GD] has created a new organization to provide long-range infrared and high-definition imaging systems, the company said yesterday.

General Dynamics Global Imaging Technologies is built on the company’s existing electro-optical infrared (EO/IR) cameras, precision optical components, motion control products and stabilized high-definition gimbals to help deliver high-performance imaging defense, homeland security, law enforcement and commercial customers, it added.

“As we continue to expand on General Dynamics Global Imaging Technologies’ programs, products and solutions, customers will benefit from our more fully integrated portfolio of end-to-end imagery offerings,” Lou Von Thaer, president of General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, said in the statement.

Remotely operated weapon systems, long-range surveillance cameras and highly-precise imaging telescopes are a few products that demand the technology that the company hopes to provide with its new offshoot.

General Dynamics acquired Axsys Technologies in 2009 to expand the company’s offerings to high-performance EO/IR camera systems and components.
