Future M1E3 Abrams Tanks To Be Army’s First Hybrid-Electric Combat Vehicle, Camarillo Says

The Army’s future M1E3 version of its Abrams tank will be the service’s first hybrid-electric drive combat vehicle, Under Secretary Gabe Camarillo said during a recent discussion.  “With a hybrid-electric drive, it will reduce the logistical burdens of having to transport fuel on the battlefield. But it will also be able to run, what’s called, silent watch and essentially reduce its [electromagnetic] spectrum footprint that it will have on the battlefield,” Camarillo said during a recent talk at Stanford University.…
