F/A-XX and Frigate Future Not Yet Decided In Navy’s FY 2026 Budget Request

The Defense Department’s fiscal year 2026 budget request has limited spending on the Navy’s next-generation fighter program, F/A-XX, to the minimal needed to finish the design while allocating no funds on the delayed Constellation-class frigate, awaiting administration decisions on both programs. During a Thursday briefing on the department’s budget request, senior defense official told reporters the budget requests only $74 million for the F/A-XX program in the budget “to complete the design of that aircraft,” while they focus on the Air…
