F-35A Heads To Alaska For Cold-Weather Tests

A U.S. Air Force F-35A Lightning II arrived at Eielson Air Force Base near Fairbanks, Alaska, last week to demonstrate two key cold-weather capabilities over the next few months.The conventional-takeoff-and-landing (CTOL) fighter jet, which is already certified to land on wet runways, will be tested in October and November to help ensure it can land on icy runways, the Air Force and prime contractor Lockheed Martin [LMT] said after the F-35A landed at Eielson Oct. 12.
