The Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) on capabilities that can be used to support detecting and or identifying radiological and nuclear materials traveling into the U.S. by freight rail cargo. Analytical and other capabilities that address the flow of freight rail commerce at sites such as direct-to- rail production facilities, seaports, rail yards and border crossings are of interest. Examples of these capabilities are passive detection systems, technology testbeds, modeling and simulation of the detection effectiveness of systems, and modeling and simulation of rail cargo commerce flows. On average, this commerce enters the U.S. as part of 120 freight trains containing 4,800 rail cars daily from Canada and Mexico through rail ports of entry. Sol. No. RFI-RailCargo.
